AMW Physical Therapy

I'm an animal-loving physical therapist with a palate for good coffee and great wine. I'm a mom, a wife, an ex-collegiate soccer player, a multiple-knee-surgery survivor, and someone who has always had a little bit of a need for speed.

Today, I'm also the founder of AMW Physical Therapy and The Racers Physio, a physical therapist for Trinity-Pawling School, and a clinician who has had the opportunity to work within some of the highest levels of professional motorsports, including IndyCar and IMSA.

My story

The Ashley Story

01

How It All Started

My physical therapy journey really started when I was a kid.

My daredevil stepdad was the first person who planted the idea in my head. And when I say daredevil, I mean it.

Think Evel Knievel — retired NYC police detective, former bull rider, motorcyclist, race car driver, and someone who accumulated his fair share of injuries along the way. Because of that, physical therapy was a pretty familiar part of our lives.

He was also one of my biggest believers and supporters. So I thought: maybe he's right.

Fast-forward all these years, and I'm still doing exactly what he encouraged me to do — helping people get back to the things they love.

My stepdad, planting the seed
You know, Ash, I really think you should think about becoming a physical therapist. I think you're the perfect person for the job.
02

What Do I Love About Being a Physical Therapist?

Empowering people.

Pain, injury, disability, and frustration should not automatically become a life sentence.

One of the biggest things I've learned throughout my career is that healthcare can be incredibly reactive. Too often, we wait until something becomes a major problem before addressing it. I want to help change that.

Physical therapy shouldn't only be about getting someone out of pain. It should be about helping people understand their bodies, become stronger and more resilient, and feel confident doing the things that matter to them.

And a lot of that belief comes from being a patient myself.

03

I Know What It Feels Like to Be the Injured Athlete

At 18, I headed off to college with two goals: become a physical therapist and play collegiate soccer.

It turns out that my journey through physical therapy school was significantly smoother than my journey as a college athlete.

After already dealing with a previous knee injury, I underwent two additional knee surgeries between my freshman and junior years of college.

I spent enough time on crutches to earn the nickname "Crutch," and unfortunately, I spent far more time in the athletic training room than I ever wanted to. Eventually, I transitioned from "college athlete" to what I jokingly call "professional clipboard holder."

But those experiences ended up shaping the physical therapist I am today.

04

My Injuries Taught Me What Physical Therapy Should — and Shouldn't — Be

Throughout what felt like a never-ending recovery process, I worked with a number of physical therapists. The unfortunate part? I'm lucky if I can remember any of their names.

I often spent most of my sessions working through exercises with an aide while the physical therapist was juggling several other patients.

There was very little individual attention. Very little analysis of how I moved. Very little strength testing. And very little discussion about whether I was actually prepared to return to sport.

Looking back now as a physical therapist, I understand how much was missing. That experience became one of the biggest reasons I ultimately created AMW Physical Therapy.

05

My Goal Is for You to Never Feel Like Just Another Patient

I believe physical therapy should be personal.

That means understanding your goals, watching how you move, measuring progress, challenging you appropriately, and adjusting your plan as your body changes.

I often tell people to think of their physical therapist as their personal mechanic. Most of us have someone we call when something goes wrong with our car — when a tire goes flat, a warning light appears, or something just doesn't sound right.

Why shouldn't we take the same approach with our bodies? You shouldn't have to wait until you can barely move before asking for help. Sometimes you simply need a tune-up.

Why Do I Compare People to Race Cars?

Because I spend a lot of my life around them.

Motorsports have been part of my world for as long as I can remember. When I wasn't at a soccer game or track meet growing up, there was a good chance my family and I were traveling to a race track somewhere in the country. That world eventually became part of my professional life as well.

Through The Racers Physio, I have worked with drivers and teams throughout professional motorsports, including IndyCar and IMSA, providing physical therapy, recovery, hydration, performance, and human-performance support in one of the most demanding sporting environments imaginable.

Race car drivers are athletes. They deal with heat, G-forces, fatigue, dehydration, repetitive loading, injuries, travel, and enormous cognitive demands — sometimes while driving at speeds exceeding 150 or 200 mph.

And just like a race car, small problems matter. The human body shouldn't be any different.

In her words
You don't wait for an engine to blow before doing maintenance on it.
07

Where I Am Today

Today, my career spans private practice, school athletics, women's health, and professional motorsports.

Through AMW Physical Therapy, I work one-on-one with athletes, active adults, post-operative patients, and women returning to exercise and sport through pregnancy and postpartum.

I also serve as a physical therapist for Trinity-Pawling School and continue my work through The Racers Physio, supporting athletes and teams within IndyCar and IMSA.

Outside of work, I'm a wife and mom — roles that have given me an even greater appreciation for how important it is that health, training, and rehabilitation actually fit into real life.

No matter who I'm working with, the goal is the same: help people keep doing what they love.

08

Keeping You Active Is My Jam

One phrase I absolutely hate hearing is: "I was told I can never do that again."

Sometimes there are legitimate reasons an activity needs to change. But many times, people have simply never been given the tools, progression, strength, or guidance they need to return safely.

Every person's definition of success looks different. My job is to figure out what your version looks like and help build the path to get there.

09

If You Choose to Work With Me, My Emphasis Is on YOU.

Physical therapy should never feel like something being done to you. It should be a partnership.

If an injury has disrupted your life, training, sport, or confidence, my role is to help guide you through that process.

I'll educate you. I'll challenge you. I'll probably tell you when you're capable of more than you think. And I'll be there to make adjustments when things don't go perfectly — because rehabilitation is rarely a perfectly straight line.

Ultimately, you are the driver of your success. I'm simply your coach, your mechanic, your problem-solver, and your guide along the way.

From your first visit to your last, my goal is to help you understand your body, trust it again, and build the strength and confidence to reach your fullest potential.

You are not a diagnosis.
You are not a time slot.
You are not “good enough.”
My focus is you.

Recover. Rebuild. Return Stronger.

Curious how that philosophy turns into a treatment plan?
